A multymedia installation, created by a group of young Ukrainian artists, includes video, five 1×1.5m photos and also a show case with a photographic record of the project development process. Oleksandr Solovyov is a curator of the exhibition.
The Dreamers project is a survey presenting a new type of characters — young people whose individualities hide behind the shield of a teen subculture they belong to. The project’s protagonists are Kyiv “emo” teenagers that emerge before the viewers in two different appearances. On the photos they are portrayed flying, suspended in the air, as if they have been cut out from the social relations system. On the video screen they come into view one by one, shouting out some kind of slogans / complaints.
This is a metaphoric reflection of the today’s society existence. A state of insecurity and fragility defines the post-Soviet reality in the new millennium, reality that has replaced the solid pessimism of the previous decade. Doubting personal political convictions and living in the phantom-like economy — so typical for the modern Ukrainian society — defines an infantile dreamer category among the young generation. Talking about their interests, just like at the TV casting, the young people subconsciously represent members of a group that muck about aimlessly; the revolutionaries expressing no objections.
Victor Miziano, curator and arts critic (Moscow, Russia): “SOSka use one method that imitates Brecht’s epic theatre and pursue the same goal — ignoring own theatrical manner. In the “Dreamers” the artists endeavour to create the ultimate archetypes of the models. The figures flying in the emptiness are a quintessence of social loneliness; and when the characters for a split moment express themselves shouting out a single line, as if at a casting call — this is a quintessence of a play; and, finally, one deep and discrete cry is a quintessence of an affect.” The SOSka art work, i.e. video clip «Be Happy», has been previously presented in the PinchukArtCenter in 2007 within a group exhibition by the young Ukrainian and American artists «Generations.UsA».
The “Dreamers” project is open for viewing in the PinchukArtCentre/Project Room from 16 November to 14 December, 12:00 to 21:00, Tuesday to Sunday. Free admission.

The PinchukArtCentre is proud to present a major international group exhibition with 19 leading artists of our time, devoted to Sexuality and Transcendence as a central theme of contemporary art. On view from April 24, 2010 through September 16, 2010 the exhibition examines the diversity and complexity of the art produced on this theme today.

The show displays the sparkling dialogue of various artistic approaches in the tension field between the two extremes of raw sexuality and a sublime transformation into transcendence.
Featuring loans from both artists’ studios and private collections the exhibition includes nineteen major work groups with a total of 150 individual works in twenty rooms on four floors of the PinchukArtCentre. Many works have never been shown publicly before.
