September 18, 2012 - September 23, 2012

The PinchukArtCentre presents “The Bank” by Nicolas Grospierre– the fourth one-week solo exhibition in the context of Transfer. Transfer isan exchange programme to promote and support new generation of Ukrainian artists abroad and to offer a dynamic view on young Polish art in Ukraine. This is a common project of the PinchukArtCentre and the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, Poland).

Nicolas Grospierre’s photography rests on the principles of archiving and documenting with a particular focus on abandoned modernist architecture of post-Soviet countries. Once constructed with a great deal of ambition and affirmation, these buildings are captured by the artist as ghostly monuments of a failed utopia.

At the PinchukArtCentre Grospierre shows his recent installation “The Bank”. The artist will present a series of photographs taken at the abandoned premises of an American bank right after the recession. The series is adjoined by a one-to-one photographic reconstruction of a vault. As a metaphor for avidity and incessant accumulation, “The Bank” discloses fragility and instability of late capitalist strategies – in the flimsiness of the very construction and as an eloquent document of the global recession.

The exhibition is organised and co-curated by Maria Lanko, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform. The show is open on the 5th floor in the PAC-UA space from 18 until 23 September 2012.
