Workshop “Kintsugi — The Art of Restoration” | DIY Program
Sometimes even a broken cup or plate stays meaningful to us because of the stories it carries. If you have such an object, this might be a good moment to reconsider what it holds.
We invite you to a workshop within the DIY program, where together with Dmytro Riznychenko we will explore kintsugi — a Japanese technique of ceramic repair in which cracks and breaks are not hidden, but highlighted with gold.
The workshop takes place in two sessions: Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 PM, and Saturday, June 13 at 3:30 PM.
Participants are invited to bring their own broken ceramic objects — dishes, figurines, or other meaningful items. We will work hands-on with ceramic fragments, from preparing broken edges to finishing the seams.
The process reflects the idea that life experiences shape us: they cannot be fully erased or hidden, and there is no need to. The traces they leave can become part of what makes each of us unique.
The event will take place on the 5th floor of the educational space at PinchukArtCentre. Participation is free, but registration is required. The workshop is open to adults, no prior experience needed.
Dmytro Riznychenko is a kintsugi practitioner and master. Trained as a psychoanalyst, he works with the Japanese art of ceramic restoration, exploring themes of memory, damage, and transformation.
DIY Program is a platform for realizing ideas, where people with different backgrounds share what matters to them, and the art center team helps bring these ideas to life. It is a space for experimentation and collective creativity, where people can make things with their own hands and meet others with shared interests.
