The PinchukArtCentre presents “A Man with Two Seesaws” by Monika Zawadzki – the first one-week solo exhibition in the context of Transfer. Transfer isan exchange programme to promote and support new generation of Ukrainian artists abroad and to offer a dynamic view on young Polish art in Ukraine. It is realized in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, Poland).

Monika Zawadzki creates simple graphic forms in sculpture, painting, drawing and video, all deeply rooted in the formalistic design strategies. One of her principle subjects is the idea of constructed identities, which Zawadzki translates using universal forms.

The exhibitionwill include three new produced works: a sculpture “A Man with Two Seesaws” which will be shown in dialog with two videos from her “Anyone” project; a site-specific mural painting and a new sound work consisting out of an interview between herself and Maria Lanko.

Zawadzki develops a language which combines graphic strategies with a high developed research into forming cultural and private identities. With these new productions which are presented at the exhibition, the artist makes a new step in her work combining different media to develop a complex multidimensional discourse.

Björn Geldhof, Artistic manager of the PinchukArtCentre, curator of the show

The exhibition is organised and co-curated by Maria Lanko, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform. The show is open on the 5th floor in the PAC-UA space from 28 August until 2 September 2012.
