Guided tour of Chapman Brothers exhibition “Chicken”

Thursday, March 14, 19:00

On Thursday, March 14, at 19:00 Deputy Artistic Director of the PinchukArtCentre Bjorn Geldhof will guide a tour of the exhibition “Chicken” by Jake & Dinos Chapman. He will analyze art works presented at the show and explain artistic positions of the British artists.

The event will start on the 2nd floor of the art centre, next to the reception. The tour will be conducted in English without translation.

Solo exhibition of Jake & Dinos Chapman titled “Chicken” stands at the centre of the major new installation entitled, The Sum of all Evil (2013) that forms a synthesized reflection upon the central themes such as the Holocaust, violence, and death. Alongside this, the exhibition will include a number of iconic works by the Chapman brothers whose sharp subversive humour and unbridled aggression provokes controversy and questions moral contemporary taboos.

The exhibition will be open in the PinchukArtCentre from February 16 till April 21, 2013. Admission is Free.

From Expression to Visualization class as part of Walking-Talking educational program for children

On Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 14:00, the PinchukArtCentre invites 10 to 12 year old children to join a class entitled From Expression to Visualization. This will be the third Walking –Talking class of the Discover the World of Contemporary Art series designed to help young art centre visitors analyze and understand contemporary art.

From Expression to Visualization will acquaint young visitors with two parallel exhibitions at the PinchukArtCentre: “Chicken” by Jake and Dinos Chapman and «agentic iced etcetera» by Tony Ourslera. Throughout the tour the children will be asked to not only participate in the discussion of the work, but also express their impressions on paper. Moving from one room to another, young participants will be able to track how their perceptions, experiences and pictures change. Together with artist Maria Kulikovska and tour guide Lyudmila Bulanova children will be able to analyze how the art objects presented at the exhibitions impact their artistic works.

The class will start at 14:00 in the reception area on the 2nd floor of the art centre.

Attention!

Only those who participated in three previous classes may register for this event in order to complete the course.

Walking - Talking is a new education program for children ages 10 to 12. Young art centre visitors will be participating in specially designed investigative tours of the exhibitions that will help them better understand art objects.

Saturday Talk “Tony Oursler’s Art Practice: Between Video, Installation and Theatre”

Saturday, March 16, 15:00

On Saturday, March 16, at 15:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites to attend Saturday Talk “Tony Oursler’s Art Practice: Between Video, Installation and Theatre”. The talk participants will review the specifics of the artistic language of video and analyze interdisciplinary creativity in Tony Oursler’s work, encompassing video, sculpture, acting, script writing and etc.

The talk will be hosted by video artist Oleh Chornyi and Tetiana Kochubinska, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform.

The event will take place at 15:00 on the 4th floor, room #4, exhibition of Tony Oursler.

The PinchukArtCentre presents the first major solo exhibition by Tony Oursler in Eastern Europe entitled “agentic iced etcetera”. The exhibition combines specially produced new works, including a Ukrainian speaking installation, with some of the most iconic pieces of the artist. Themes within the exhibition include chance in everyday life, endorphin fuelled relationships, and the tendency for magical thinking to name a few.  The human face and the way it simultaneously communicates and masks emotions is also a key theme in Oursler’s work.

The exhibition will be open from February 16 till April 21, 2013 in the PinchukArtCentre. Admission is Free.

Theme Tour “Art and Religion: Point of Tangency”

On Sunday, March 16, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to participate in a Thematic Tour “Art and Religion: Point of Tangency”

Is faith possible after the Holocaust, wars and other horrors of our recent traumatic past? What fills the gap where the Great Other used to reign? These questions are actualized in the works of many contemporary artists. During the tour, visitors will try to find answers to these questions, and to explore the symbiosis of art, science and religion in the works of the Chapman Brothers, Damien Hirst, Tony Oursler and etc.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Natalia Shostak, PinchukArtCentre’s guide.

Thematic tours can be arranged on request for schools and universities.

Family Sundays – Sunday art classes at the PinchukArtCentre

Sunday, March 17, 14:00

On Sunday, March 17, at 14:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all children aged 4 through 6 to a special Family Sunday class Language of Images in Art.

During lesson children learn by what means an image is created, and how, using ordinary things, an artist manages to implement his ideas; how an artist uses associative and stereotypical thinking of a viewer to form an image. During the creative part of the lesson children will use their imagination while turning ordinary into extraordinary; they will try to find main characters of their works, knowing only one thing about each of them.

Family Sunday starts at 14:00 on the 6th floor in the SkyArtCafe’s video-lounge.

Meanwhile, parents can join one of the regular exhibition tours led by qualified PinchukArtCentre guides.

Maximum number of children in the group is 20. Registration is mandatory.

Scheduled Family Sunday classes:
4 – 6 years: 31 March, 14 April;
7 – 9 years: 24 March, 7 April, 21 April.

Theme Tour “Reality Transformation in Contemporary Art”

Sunday, March 17, 17:00

On Sunday, March 17, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to participate in a Thematic Tour “Reality Transformation in Contemporary Art”. 

Reality has always been a basis for artistic reflection. This dialogue has acquired a variety of forms - denial of reality, copying of reality or transformation of it. During the thematic tour participants will review the various forms of interaction of art and reality through the example of the works of the Chapman brothers, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Ruff and others.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Oleksandr Mykhed, PinchukArtCentre’s guide.

Thematic tours can be arranged on request for schools and universities.
