Educational program for children Walking-Talking: Technological Advances

On Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 14:00, the PinchukArtCentre invites 10 to 12 year old children to join a Walking –Talking class, in the series of classes entitled Basic Categories of China Contemporary Art Discourse. The topic of the event is Technological Advances.

What are the links between art and science? Can we draw the line between science in art and art in science? How do the latest scientific and technological advances influence content, subject matter, methods and results of the artistic practice? This session will help children find answers to these and other questions related to the effects of the technological progress on the art world. In its turn, a creative task will help children apply new knowledge to their own art works.

The event will be hosted by the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide Liudmyla Bulanova and artist Maria Kulykivska.

The class will start at 14:00 in the reception area on the 2nd floor of the art centre.

Maximum number of children in the group is 10. Registration is mandatory.

Walking - Talking is a new education program for children ages 10 to 12. Young art centre visitors will be participating in specially designed investigative tours of the exhibitions that will help them better understand art objects.

Scheduled Walking-Talking classes:

August 3, August 17, August 31, September 14, September 28, October 5.

On Saturday, July 20, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour “Body and Physicality in Contemporary Art”.

Theme tour of the exhibitions “Collection Platform 4: Emotions and Technology” and “China China” will help find answers to the following questions: how physicality becomes a material, an object, a subject and means of artistic expression in contemporary art? Why it is a physical presence that makes it possible to experience genuineness of life and allows you to feel its essence and meaning? Through the examples of works by Damien Hirst, Juergen Teller, Cao Fei, Yang Xin and Zhang Huan, theme tour participants will analyze multiple aspects of physicality issues in contemporary art.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Liudmyla Bulanova, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.

Theme Tour  “Painting as a Medium: Between Traditional Craft and Contemporary Practices”

On Sunday, July 21, at 17:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour  “Painting as a Medium: Between Traditional Craft and Contemporary Practices”.

Painting is perhaps the most ancient form of art, which, however, has kept its form until now. But obviously, the paintings of classical masters differ significantly from the contemporary art objects. This is due to the change of artistic practice itself, which acts as a medium of communication in a particular cultural context, in contrast to the classical principle of imitation of reality (Aristotle’s "mimesis"). However, despite the apparent communicative nature of contemporary art, painting continues to refer to the human sensibility that gives contemporary art a particular depth.

Theme Tour participants will have an opportunity to reflect on these questions, referring to the works of art of the contemporary artists presented under the current shows at the PinchukArtCentre, including Sun Xun, Zhang Huan, Zhao Yao, Damien Hirst, Martin Kobe, Julie Mehretu.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Nadia Kovalchuk, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.

Registered event attendees will have priority entry to the art centre without queuing. To register in advance and receive additional information, please use the contact information below:
