Theme Tour “Understanding surveillance society”
Sunday, December 28, 19:00

On Sunday, December 28, at 19:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites a theme tour on“Understanding surveillance society.”

At the end of the 18th century surfaced an idea to create a new type of an ideal prison – “Panopticon”, a place from which it is impossible to escape or to go unnoticed. The implementation of this concept into reality was terrifying. Times have changed, and modern democratic world has, for human sake, security cameras installed everywhere, personal information stored in databases and drones patrolling the sky. What is a surveillance society? Are people ready to live under surveillance for the sake of their own safety, or does a long dreamed democracy turn into a prison? The theme tour participants will try to find answers to these questions while analyzing works of art by the patron artists and nominees for the Future Generation Art Prize 2014.

The event starts at 19:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by the PinchukArtCentre’s guide Aliona Tsybulska.

Registered event attendees will have priority entry to the art centre without queuing.
