Pavel Makov was born in Leningrad in 1958. In 1979 he graduated from the Crimean Art College and Kharkov Art and Industrial Institute in 1984.
Since 1986, he is engaged in the project, which is based on the study and description of the customs and character of the country in which he resides in, and which, for want of a better name, is called UTOPA; being present in the geopolitical space of Europe, this country is completely absent in its cultural space, despite an adequate number of talented and intelligent citizens.
Materials collected during 1992-2005 form a basis for the author's book "Chronicles of Utopia 1992-2005." After 2005 the interests of the author focus on UTOPA gardens and all that happens there.
Since 1989, the works associated with UTOPA have been presented in numerous exhibitions worldwide, received various prizes and awards; the author participated in international symposia and residence programmes.
Individual works of the UTOPA project can be found in museums around the world.
