Andreas Gursky was born in Leipzig (Germany). He lives and works in Dusseldorf. In 1981-87 he studied at the State Academy of Art (Kunstakademie) in Dusseldorf.
He was lectured by Bernd and Hilla Becher, married couple, world-wide renowned photographers and lecturers, who were awarded with Hasselblad Award, the most reputable photography award, in 2004.
Starting from 1985 he was stakeholder of a vast array of group and personal exhibitions held in the top-notch world centers and museums of contemporary art, as PS1 (New York), Tate Gallery (Liverpool), MOMA (New York), Jorge Pompidou Center (Paris), Venice Biennale etc.
