More than 130,000 people have visited Anish Kapoor’s solo exhibition at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine

1 October 2012

More than 130,000 people have visited Anish Kapoor’s show at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine. The first solo exhibition of Anish Kapoor in Eastern Europe, which closed on September 30, presented a selection of the artist’s most iconic works together with a new monumental steel work created specially for the PinchukArtCentre.

Highlights of the exhibition included Between Shit and Architecture (2011) and Shooting into the Corner (2009) works. The focal point of this show was a commissioned new monumental steel work, creating Kapoor’s central idea the simultaneity of inside and outside of a sculpture.

A selection of 26 architectural models presented at the show gave a different view of Kapoor as an artist who is deeply interested in the public realm. They offered a unique insight into this area of his work and the artist’s approach to space on an architectural scale.

Within Anish Kapoor’s show, the PinchukArtCentre and the British Council Ukraine presented Open Study Programme. The joint educational programme of these two institutions provided Ukrainian public with deeper understanding of Anish Kapoor’s art. A series of three public talks and a screening of the documentary The year of Anish Kapoor were presented as part of the project.

The show was on display at the PinchukArtCentre from May 19 to September 30, 2012. Anish Kapoor had opened the exhibition personally on May 18. A video of the tour led by Anish Kapoor is available at: pinchukartcentre.org/en/photo_and_video/video/18257/18371
