 Educational program for children Walking-Talking: Culture class

On Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 14:00, the PinchukArtCentre invites 10 to 12 year old children to join another Walking –Talking class, in the series of classes entitled Basic Categories of China Contemporary Art Discourse. The topic of the event is Culture.

Young visitors of the art center will explore the characteristics of Chinese culture through the example of a traditional painting technique Guohua, which often combines art and literature. Participants will analyze not only the philosophy of Guohua art, and contemplate the transformation of contemporary art using art works of Zhao Yao and Zhang Huan. Children will be able to visualize their ideas in their own graphics-and-collage works. 

The class will start at 14:00 in the reception area on the 2nd floor of the art centre. It will be hosted by artist Olga Sobkovych and the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide Liudmyla Bulanova.

Maximum number of children in the group is 10. Registration is mandatory.

Walking - Talking is a new education program for children ages 10 to 12. Young art centre visitors will be participating in specially designed investigative tours of the exhibitions that will help them better understand art objects.

Saturday Talk “Museum Collections: Historical Panorama and Modern Concepts”  

On Saturday, September 7, at 15:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites to attend Saturday Talk “Museum Collections: Historical Panorama and Modern Concepts”. Participants will learn how culture of collecting art has been forming throughout centuries, what the peculiarities of national collections of any major Western museum are and why it is important for a modern museum to develop contemporary art collection.

The talk will hosted by art historian, expert on history of art collecting and museum studies, teacher of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film and Television, Natalia Romanova, and Maria Lanko, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s  “Curatorial Platform”.

The event will take place at 15:00 on the 5th floor in the space with the works of Andreas Gursky.

“China China” is a major group exhibition including eleven Chinese artists of different generations, focusing on the tension between individuality and collective thinking - a subject, which not only defined Chinese history and continuously shapes contemporary society but equally gains importance in the West. The exhibition includes the works of: Ai Weiwei, Cao Fei, Chen Zhen, Sun Xun, Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Xu Zhen, Yan Xing, Yang Fudong, Zhang Huan, Zhao Yao, Zhao Zhao.

 

Theme Tour “Corporality in Performances”

On Saturday, September 7, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour “Corporality in Performances”.

Category of corporality is especially important in performance art, as the very form of artistic practice requires physical presence of the author or the performer, as well as the audience. In addition, the socio-cultural situation in the period of occurrence of the first trends of performance art - happenings and body art - conditions corporal movement of the majority of the art works.

During the thematic tour participants will explore major trends in understanding the category of corporality in performative art practices : awareness of cross-border experience of being human (the problem of life and death) and the search for self-identity. Participants of the event will explore different strategies of problematization  of corporality by reviewing the works presented within “China China” exhibition: “Seeing is not an option”  and “Teenager Teenager” by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, “Sex Comedy” by Yang Xin and “Zhu Gantsyan” by Zhang Huan.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Liudmyla Bulanova, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.

Theme tours can be arranged on request for schools and universities.  

 

Family Sundays – Art and Education class for children aged 7 through 9

 

On Sunday, September 8, at 14:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites children aged 7 to 9 years to a Family Sunday class Artist’s Homeland. Kids will analyze whether it is possible to trace the imprints of artist’s native landscape in his works, they will learn different way to depict familiar landscapes and habitats, and also will find out whether it is at all possible to identify where an artist from comes from by simply looking upon his work of art.

Touring the exhibitions “Collection Platform 4: Emotions and Technology” and "China China", children will try to identify motherland of such artists as Damien Hirst, Andreas Gursky, Xu Zhen Ai Weiwei and Zhao Yao. During the master class young art center visitors will try to recreate images of different areas in their own works. The class will be hosted by artist Olga Sobkovych and the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide Liudmyla Bulanova.

Family Sunday starts at 14:00 on the 6th floor in the SkyArtCafe’s video-lounge.

Meanwhile, parents can join one of the regular exhibition tours led by qualified PinchukArtCentre guides.

Maximum number of children in the group is 20. Registration is mandatory.

4 - 6 years: 15 September, 29 September.

7 - 9 years: 22 September, 6 October.

 

Theme Tour “Political Engagement of Artistic Practice”

On Sunday, September 8, at 17:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour "Political engagement of artistic practice."

Political and social directions of art became active during XIX century and create a new type of art. The gradual development of new effective mechanisms of influence to the reality and society made artistic practice closer to realpolitik (from German  -  policies that refuses the ideology as a basis for public policy that focuses on the practical aspects of more than ideological and moralistic). During the tour visitors will analyze the basic principles of contemporary politically engaged art as an example of individual works from the exhibition "China China".

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Kateryna Churikova, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.

Theme tours can be arranged on request for schools and universities.
