Victor Pinchuk enters ArtReview's Power 100 list for the sixth time

28 October 2013

Victor Pinchuk comes 38th in the ranking of 100 most influential people in the art world according to the ArtReview magazine (ArtReview: 2013 Power 100) published in the November 2013 issue. Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist, founder of the PinchukArtCentre and the Future Generation Art Prize has been included in the list for the sixth time: in 2008 he was ranked 67th, in 2009 - 53rd, in 2010 - 37th, in 2011 - 35th and last year he came 32nd.

The ArtReview Power 100, published each year in the November issue of ArtReview magazine, is a comprehensive listing of the artworld’s most powerful figures. Entrants are ranked according to a combination of influence over the production of art internationally, sheer financial clout (although in these times that’s no longer such a big factor) and activity in the previous 12 months – criteria which encompass artists, of course, as well as collectors, gallerists and curators. Regular appearances are also made by those who run the major art fairs, by museum and foundation directors, and even by the occasional critic.

H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees - Qatar Museums Authority, tops the list of 100 most influential people in the art world this year. In 2011, at the invitation of The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Sheikha Al-Mayassa participated at the panel of the 4th Davos Philanthropic Roundtable entitled “modernARTization: Art and Philanthropy Changing Societies” - one of the major events dedicated to philanthropy that is traditionally held during the Annual World Economic Forum Meeting.

The list in 2013 also included gallerists David Zwirne, 2nd; Iwan Wirth, 3rd; and Larry Gagosian, 4th. Directors of galleries and art institutions presented in the list are Hans Ulrich Obrist & Julia Peyton-Jones (Serpentine Galleries), Nicholas Serota (Tate), Beatrix Ruf (Kunsthalle Zurich), Daria Zhukova (center for Contemporary Art "Garage"), Glenn D. Lowry (MoMA, Board member of the Future Generation Art Prize). Among the artists from the list are Ai Weiwei, Marina Abramovic, Cindy Sherman, Gerhard Richter, the Future Generation Art Prize Patron Artists Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami; businessmen Bernardo Paz, Francois Pinault and Bernard Arnault; schools Städelschule, Bard College, and others.
