PinchukArtCentre presents “Research platform” – a long-term commitment to foster understanding of Ukrainian Art, in and outside of Ukraine

20 May 2016

The PinchukArtCentre is pleased to present Research platform – an open platform for thinking, research and discourse that is accessible to all. Housed in a newly built library at the 4th floor of the PinchukArtCentre the Research Platform conjoins research, exhibition making and education.

With a growing body of materials that is collected through institutional collaborations and with individual support, in the form of the donation of personal archives and providing access to rare information, the research platform will become a center of knowledge on Ukrainian art.

The mission of Research Platform is to preserve, catalogue and reconsider gained information. The results will be freely available in Ukrainian and English at the library and online.

At its core stands an academic project that aims to generate a living archive of Ukrainian Art from the early 80ties till present with the help of Research platform team. The research will attempt to engage with a broad understanding of artistic practices in Ukraine, including institutions and personal histories. Its approach enhances consequent research into generational shifts and practices. It provokes interrogation potential to generate new interpretations and readings of the contemporary history of Ukrainian art.

The exhibition practice is developing in three main directions and will occupy the entire 4th floor of the PinchukArtCentre:

  • exhibitions drawn from the research activities;
  • a presentation of the Collection;
  • "PAC-UA Reconsideration", investment in new production.

An active public program rooted in the research will engage broad audiences, the Ukrainian Art Community and international experts. Public debate will stimulate to reflect on the role of historical research and archiving while re-thinking Ukrainian art history.

The Research Platform is a fundamentally open platform to build out partnerships both in and outside Ukraine sharing knowledge and expertise on archiving and Ukrainian art.

Located on the 4th floor, the Research platform will be open on May 21, 2016 in the PinchukArtCentre, Kyiv, Ukraine. Opening hours: from Tuesday through Sunday from 12 am to 9 pm. Admission is free.
