As part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition Without Asking Permission,” we invite you to the workshop “Your Own Cage,” led by artist Anna Zvyagintseva, on Friday, July 24 at 6:30 PM.

The exhibition “Without Asking Permission” brings together works by Ukrainian artists created between the two revolutions — from 2004 to 2014. Among the works on display is Anna Zvyagintseva’s “Cage” — a textile object that reproduces the form and dimensions of a cage. The work was a response to the political abuse of the legal system and the persecution of civic activists, and also reflected the artist’s personal experience, where the cage becomes a metaphor for lost and stolen time.

What does freedom mean to you? And what about limitation? During the workshop, we will try to answer these questions through the language of art. Through a creative exercise, we will explore our own associations and look for ways to find space for freedom even within constraints. Together with the artist, participants will learn a technique for creating images from interwoven lines and create their own work inspired by the theme.

The event will take place on the 5th floor in the education room at PinchukArtCentre.
Recommended age: 16+. Free admission with prior registration. Places are limited.

Anna Zvyagintseva is an artist who lives and works in Kyiv. In her work, she engages with themes of the body, paths, useless actions, and small gestures. Her practice combines drawing in various forms and transmedial variations — sculpture, installation, video, and painting. She focuses on the idea of potentiality: doing something without a clear purpose, exploring how hesitation and mistakes can lead to unexpected encounters and outcomes.
