Lecture by Natalia Kryvda, “The Path of the Hero, the Path of Heroes: The Perspective of Millennia”
On Wednesday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m., we invite you to attend a lecture by Natalia Kryvda, “The Path of the Hero, the Path of Heroes: The Perspective of Millennia,” as part of Lesia Khomenko’s solo exhibition, “Imaginary Distance.”
The event will take place in the exhibition space on the 4th floor of the PinchukArtCentre.
Admission is free with prior registration.
In various series, Lesia Khomenko works with the theme of human imagery. In contrast to the heroic images in socialist realist painting, Khomenko’s art depicts everyday figures, friends and loved ones, protesters, and military personnel without ideological pathos. The artist avoids mythologization, showing human vulnerability and agency. The works allow us to trace how the image of a person changes under the influence of history, war, media, and technology, and at the same time raise the question: who is a hero today and how do we see them?
During the lecture “The Path of the Hero, the Path of Heroes: The Optics of Millennia,” Nataliia Kryvda will help us trace how the image of the hero is formed and transformed. We will talk about myths, heroization, and sacralization, about the new pantheon of heroes in Ukraine, and about the channels through which these images are communicated.
About the lecturer:
Natalia Kryvda is a Doctor of Philosophy, professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, academic director of the Edinburgh Business School in Ukraine, and chair of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
