Life Drawing Session with Maria Kulikovska
As part of the public program accompanying the exhibition “Without Asking Permission,” we invite you to an art event with artist, sculptor, and performer Maria Kulikovska on Wednesday, August 19, at 17:30.
The exhibition “Without Asking Permission” explores how artists reflected on corporeality in response to changes in Ukrainian society between the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, defending equal rights and the importance of personal freedoms.
Among the works on view is Maria Kulikovska’s watercolor “My Pregnant Wife with Pregnant Me,” created in 2015. Watercolor holds an important place in the artist’s practice, serving as a tool for working through personal experiences, memory, and emotion.
During the event, participants will take part in a life drawing session using watercolor. Through the creative process, we will try to listen more closely to our own feelings, thoughts, and memories. This will be not only an artistic practice, but also an opportunity to explore one’s inner state and talk about healing through creativity.
The image of the flower holds a special place in Maria Kulikovska’s work. Each participant will receive special prints featuring flowers painted by the artist. In her project “Bullets and Flowers,” presented this year at the Malta Biennale, Maria combined casts of real spent shell casings with dried plants sealed in transparent resin. In this way, the artist transforms a symbol of destruction into an object that can carry the idea of renewal and healing.
The event will take place on the 6th floor of PinchukArtCentre.
Recommended age of participants — 18 and older. Participation is free with prior registration. The number of spots is limited.
