Workshop “Representations” with Alevtina Kakhidze

As part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition “Without Asking for Permission“, we invite you to join the workshop “Representations” led by artist Alevtina Kakhidze on Thursday, July 30, at 18:30.

The exhibition “Without Asking for Permission” brings together works by Ukrainian artists created between the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity. It explores how the body became a tool of self-determination, resistance, and political expression in response to profound social change, while advocating for equal rights and personal freedom.

Among the works on view is Alevtina Kakhidze’s video “I Can Be a Blue-Eyed Girl.” In the slow-motion video, the artist undergoes the painful process of putting on blue contact lenses to change the natural colour of her eyes. The work reflects on normative ideas of female beauty and socially imposed expectations of appearance, asking who ultimately shapes our image: ourselves or the people around us?

Continuing this conversation, the workshop will invite participants to explore identity through a series of creative exercises, reflecting on how we describe ourselves and how our self-image changes through the gaze of others. The workshop will create a space for unexpected discoveries, meaningful conversations, and new ways of seeing ourselves and one another.

The workshop will take place in the Education Room on the 5th floor of PinchukArtCentre.

About the artist

Alevtina Kakhidze is an artist, performer, curator, educator, and gardener. She was born in Zhdanivka (Donetsk region) and has lived in the village of Muzychi since 2009.
