About usPress-releasesPinchukArtCentre Announces the Members of the Selection Committee for the Future Generation Art PrizeUpon the completion of the application procedure for the Future Generation Art Prize, the PinchukArtCentre announces the members of the Selection Committee that will be considering the applications submitted for the competition. They have been chosen by the members of the Jury of the Prize, internationally renowned professionals in contemporary art.
The Selection Committee will nominate a final shortlist of twenty artists that will be announced on June 22, 2010.
According to Björn Geldhof, the PinchukArtCentre artistic manager, “The seven competent art-professionals of the selection committee are coming from different parts of the world, emphasizing the global dimension of this prize. Together with applications of 125 different countries it offers us the unique possibility to select challenging new artistic positions."
Since January 18, 2010, the democratic application procedure has allowed more than 6000 young artists from all continents, living in 125 countries, to apply.
The prize was supported by 15 partner platforms who communicated the prize worldwide and almost 100 correspondents engaging young artists from different continents. Next to many applications from European and North American artists there has been a response from Asian, South American and African artists.
In total, applicants presented more than 25 000 works including all existing media. More than 60% of the artists are younger than 30 years old, and the proportion between male and female artists is almost equal.
An exhibition of shortlisted artists will open at the PinchukArtCentre (PAC) in October 2010. The respected international jury will choose and announce the winner of the main prize in December 2010.
Future Generation Art Prize established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation is a major new international competition for artists up to 35. Applications could be uploaded for free on the competition’s globally accessible website: www.futuregenerationartprize.org Established to discover and provide long-term support for a generation of emerging artists, wherever they may live and work, this unique artist-focused prize aims to make a major contribution toward the production of new work by young artists.
Among the benefits of this new biennial award are a generous prize ($60,000 in cash and $40,000 toward production of new work); a group exhibition for the shortlisted artists at the PinchukArtCentre in Kiev, one of the largest and most active new contemporary art institutions in Eastern Europe; and mentorship by renowned artists including Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami.
The international Board that oversees the Future Generation Art Prize includes chairman Victor Pinchuk, the four Mentor Artists, Eli Broad, Dakis Joannou, Elton John, Miuccia Prada, and art museum directors Richard Armstrong (Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum), Glenn D. Lowry (The Museum of Modern Art), Alfred Pacquement (Musée nationale d’art moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou) and Sir Nicholas Serota (Tate).

Located in the historic architectural complex of Kiev’s Besarabka quarter, which has undergone a major renovation in the past decade, the six-story, 43,000-square-foot PAC opened in September 2006 as one of the largest contemporary art institutions in Europe. Dedicated to presenting exhibitions by leading Ukrainian and international artists, PAC to date has presented solo exhibitions of artists including Damien Hirst and Sam Taylor-Wood and group exhibitions such as 21 Russia (works created by 21 Russian artists during the first years of the 21st century), Reflection (a group exhibition with a selection of international artists), and Red Forest (works by seminal Ukrainian artists of the 1990s, shown in an exhibition named after a wooded area adjacent to the Chernobyl nuclear station), Ukraine (a retrospective solo exhibition by Serhey Bratkov), Faith Matters (a solo show by Subodh Gupta). At the moment Sexuality and Transcendence, a major international group exhibition with 19 leading artists of our time is on display till September 19, 2010.
PAC was also responsible for presenting the Ukrainian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007 and 2009 and in 2005 exhibited the first acquisitions of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation at the Venice Biennale.
