Today, 26 June 2013, the 20 shortlisted nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2013, a nationwide prize in contemporary art for young Ukrainian artists, have been announced. The short list has been formed by the Expert Committee based on the results of the selection among more than 1 000 applications submitted by young artist from all regions of Ukraine and foreign countries.

Seven of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2013 nominees had been selected for the short list of the Prize in 2009 and 2011, namely: Daniil Galkin (2011), Dobrinya Ivanov (2011), Zhanna Kadyrova (2009 and 2011), Lada Nakonechna (2009 and 2011), Mykola Ridnyi (2011), Ivan Svitlychnyi (2011) and Olesia Khomenko (2009 and 2011). Additionally, Zanna Kadyrova became the winner of the first Special PinchukArtCentre Prize in 2011. The rest of the nominees are 13 new names whose works never have been on show in the PinchukArtCentre before.

The works of 20 shortlisted young artists will be presented at the exhibition that will be opened in the PinchukArtCentre from 26 October 2013 till 5 January 2014.The winners of the Main and Special Prizes will be named by the International Jury of PinchukArtCentre Prize in December 2013 in Kyiv. The winner of the "Public Choice Prize" shall be determined by voting of the PinchukArtCentre visitors.

The winners of the Main and two Special Prizes, besides cash awards of UAH 100 000 and UAH 25 000 respectively, will have one month residence in studios of internationally renowned artists. Additionally, the winner of the Main Prize will be automatically included in the short list of the Future Generation Art Prize - international prize for young artists. Winner in the category “Public Choice Prize” will be awarded UAH 10 000.

Notes to editors:

The PinchukArtCentre Prize is a nationwide prize in contemporary art to young Ukrainian artists up to 35. It is awarded every two years starting from 2009. This Prize is the first privately funded award in Ukraine, aimed at creating, supporting and developing a new generation of young Ukrainian artists.

Ukrainian citizens aged 16-35 working with any media of contemporary art may apply for the competition. Individual artists, as well as groups of artists are allowed to participate in the competition.  One artist (or a group of artists) may submit from 3 to 7 works. The applications should be submitted according to the PinchukArtCentre Prize Rules.

The Main Prize, two Special Prizes and the "Public Choice Prize" shall be awarded by the International Jury of PinchukArtCentre Prize in December 2013:

• The Main Prize includes UAH 100 000 and artist-in-residency program. The winner is automatically included in the shortlist of the Future Generation Art Prize 2014.
• Two Special Prizes include UAH 25 000 each and artist-in-residency programs.
• The Public Choice Prize is UAH 10 000. The winner of the Public Choice Prize shall be determined by votes of the visitors attending the exhibition of the shortlisted artists.

The PinchukArtCentre Main Prize winners Artem Volokitin and Mykyta Kadan were automatically included in the shortlists of the Future Generation Art Prize in 2010 and 2012. Volokitin took part in the Future Generation Art Prize @ Venice at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and Kadan takes part in 2013 respectively.
