The PinchukArtCentre and British Council Ukraine presented Open Study Programme within the first comprehensive solo exhibition by Anish Kapoor in Eastern Europe. The joint educational programme of these two institutions provided Ukrainian public with deeper understanding of Anish Kapoor’s art. A series of three public talks and a screening of the documentary The year of Anish Kapoor were presented as part of the project.
The first public talk featured Norman Rosenthal, curator of Anish Kapoor’s solo exhibition at the Royal Academy who presented a view on Anish Kapoor’s life and oeuvre in a conversation with Eckhard Schneider, the General Director of the PinchukArtCentre.
The second lecture featured Matthew Springford, BBC director who created a documentary film The year of Anish Kapoor, revealing Anish Kapoor’s preparation for the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. During the lecture, Springford presented his documentary and talked about the process and challenges if its creation.
During the third event Caroline Douglas, Head of Arts Council’s Collection, in a conversation with Björn Geldhof, Artistic Manager of the PinchukArtCentre, shared her experience of organizing “Flashback: Anish Kapoor” show. Flashback is a major series of touring exhibitions from the Arts Council Collection. Following on from the success of the first Flashback exhibition of works by Bridget Riley, the second artist in the series of exhibitions was Anish Kapoor.
Live streaming of all public talks was available at the PinchukArtCentre and British Council Ukraine websites. The viewers could address their questions to the speakers at the Facebook pages of the PinchukArtCentre and the British Council Ukraine.
All public talks took place at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The film The year of Anish Kapoor was screened five times at the PinchukArtCentre. The documentary (running time 55 minutes) was displayed in English with Ukrainian subtitles.
The Year of Anish Kapoor, created for the BBC One art series Imagine, reveals Anish Kapoor’s preparation for the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
