PinchukArtCentre opens applications for Understanding the Museum educational programme for teenagers

29 October 2012

The PinchukArtCentre opens applications for Understanding the Museum – a new educational programme developed by the art centre specialists for teens aged 14 to 16. This special course introduces young participants to the practices of contemporary art in the context of a professional institution. The second edition of Understanding the Museum will last from November 17 to mid-December, 2012. Participation is free of charge.

Focusing on the current exhibitions of the PinchukArtCentre, programme participants will learn about preparation processes preceding the show, explore exposition as a basis of the museum communication, and understand museum as a social and cultural institution and educational centre. Through the series of talks and activities, course tutors will have an open dialogue with the participants, motivating young students to develop their own reading of artworks, and stimulating their creative thinking.

The course consists of 7 theory and practice classes, and encompasses participation in discussions with the participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform
Tetiana Kochubinska
and artists Tetiana Horyushyna, Alevtyna Kakhidze, and Olesia Khomenko, who will be joining special lecture sessions.

Maximum number of participant is 15.

During the first edition the programme Understanding the Museum, through the example of the solo show of Anish Kapoor and "Collection Platform 3: Forever Now", course participants got acquainted with approaches to temporary and permanent exhibition. Moreover, most students had a chance to talk to an artist directly: Alevtyna Kakhidze introduced them to the concept of performance and explained types of artistic communication, including communication between a viewer and an artwork. Towards the end of the course each participant conducted a discussion tour devoted to one of the art objects showcased in the art center.
