Theme Tour “Chapman Brothers and Francisco Goya: Dialogue between Classic and Contemporary Art”

On Sunday, March 23, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to participate in a Thematic Tour “Chapman Brothers and Francisco Goya: Dialogue between Classic and Contemporary Art”
Rethinking of art history and frivolous citation of classics is an important feature of the artistic practices in postmodernism. Thus, the works of Frasisko Goya, famous Spanish painter and engraver of the 17th century, has become a new reference point for many projects of the Chapman brothers. According to the brothers, Goya, with his dark and very frank images of war and social turmoil for his time, was the first artist to have modernist outlook and critical understanding of reality. During the theme tour, participants will analyze important scenes of Goya in an interpretation of the Chapman brothers, as well as talk about appropriation strategies in contemporary art in general.

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Lizaveta German, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform.
Thematic tours can be arranged on request for schools and universities.
