Saturday Talk “Between Science and Art”
On Saturday, March 30, at 15:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites to attend Saturday Talk “Between Science and Art”.
Art always have been using scientific knowledge which, to some extent, contributed to its development. During Saturday Talk participants will view the works of art where the use of scientific inventions is an integral part of creation of an artistic image.
The talk will be hosted by Georgiy Shevchenko, mathematician, Ph.D. candidate of Taras Shevchenko National University, and Tetiana Kochubinska, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform.
The event will take place at 15:00 on the 5th floor, in the space with Olafur Eliasson’s art work.
The discussion will take place within the framework of the Collection Platform 4: Emotion and Technology, a group show that includes 17 artists offering a selective view on two central and sometimes opposed notions in our lives: emotion and technology as they constantly define our perceptions of the world. The exhibition brings together works which evoke, express and unveil emotions with art pieces dealing with technology as a subject or a tool. The show offers a view on artistic practices focusing on the one hand on how those two notions come together, and on the other hand on the tension and opposition within them.
The exhibition presents the works by Ukrainian and international artists including
Sergiy Bratkov, Ilya Chichkan, Gregory Crewdson, Olafur Eliasson, Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Carsten Höller, Martin Kobe, Jeff Koons, Oleg Kulik, Julie Mehretu, Richard Prince, Marc Quinn, Thomas Ruff, Jürgen Teller, Xavier Veilhan and
Carsten Nicolai.
The show will be open from February 16 till April 21, 2013 in the PinchukArtCentre. Admission is Free.

Theme Tour “Chapman Brothers and Francisco Goya: Dialogue between Classic and Contemporary Art”
On Sunday, March 30, at 17:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to participate in a Thematic Tour “Chapman Brothers and Francisco Goya: Dialogue between Classic and Contemporary Art”
Rethinking of art history and frivolous citation of classics is an important feature of the artistic practices in postmodernism. Thus, the works of Frasisko Goya, famous Spanish painter and engraver of the 17th century, has become a new reference point for many projects of the Chapman brothers. According to the brothers, Goya, with his dark and very frank images of war and social turmoil for his time, was the first artist to have modernist outlook and critical understanding of reality. During the theme tour, participants will analyze important scenes of Goya in an interpretation of the Chapman brothers, as well as talk about appropriation strategies in contemporary art in general.
The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Lizaveta German, participant of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform.
