The PinchukArtCentre opens applications for yet another edition of Understanding the Museum – the educational programme developed by the art centre specialists for the students of Year 10 and 11. During this special course young participants will become familiar with the practices of contemporary art, different approaches in exhibition handling, and will learn about the specifics of professional art institutions. The sessions will be held starting from November 2 until December 13, 2014. Participation is free of charge.
During the current cycle of 7 sessions, participants will focus on the works presented at the exhibition of the Future Generation Art Price 2014 nominees. Considering art as a specific language and a system of signs by which it carries out its communicative function, students will analyze the other "languages" (from the sphere of information technologies, Sociological and Political Studies), which are widely used by artists in their practice. During lessons teens will learn the basics of museum theory, learn about the appearance of first museums of contemporary art, analyze a museum from the standpoint of artistic strategies, and talk about the formation of the "museum community".
The sessions will be hosted by the PinchukArtCentre’s junior curator Tetiana Kochubinska. Additionally, the events will feature artists Mykyta Kadan, Yuri Kruchak and programmer Katherine Zhugastrova.
To apply, please, fill in the registration form. Registration is open until October 24, 2014. The selected candidates will be interviewed on October, 26. The number of participants is limited to 12.
