Art Weekend by PinchukArtCentre (November 15-16): performances by Pilar Quinteros (Chili) and Public Movement (Israel)

12 November 2014

On Saturday, November 15, 2014, within the scope of Art Weekend the PinchukArtCentre and Public Movement (Israel), the nominee for the third edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, invite public to take part in the premiere of the “Cross Section”. This outdoor performance will present a series of physical encounters taking place at Triokhsviatytelska Street in Kyiv, Ukraine, starting from “Ukrainian House” and proceeding towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Mykhailivska Square that are two significant geopolitical points in the recent history of Ukraine.

Public Movement will perform the actions of resistance, compassion, joy, and conflict. “Cross Section” will include scattered ceremonies, exercises of citizenship, and manifestations of power and vulnerability. The action is offered as a temporal structure of physical memory to be experienced together in public, a ritual that disappears while it happens.

“Cross Section” will be executed by local performers, thus becoming a new cell of Public Movement in Kyiv.

On November 15 the coordinators will meet the audience at 14:30 next to the entrance to Hotel Dnipro, 1/2 Khreshchatyk str., Kyiv, Ukraine. They will keep flags with Public Movement identity. The performance itself will start at 15:00.

The number of performance participants is limited to 300 people. Registration is mandatory.

The next day, on Sunday, November 16, 2014 within the scope of Art Weekend the PinchukArtCentre and Chilean artist Pilar Quinteros, one of 21 artists nominated for the Future Generation Art Prize, invite public to join an outdoor performance called “Friendship of Peoples Fountain”. The event will begin at 12:00 next to the entrance of the PinchukArtCentre where all participants of the performance will get cardboard parts of the fountain made by Pilar Quinteros. They will help carry the pieces of the fountain to Maidan where the artist will assemble the work back on its original position – before renovations in 2001. Reconstruction at Maidan starts at 13:00.

All willing to join carrying the pieces of fountain to Maidan should be registered.

Please register to the event by calling +38 044 590-08-58 or e-mailing to [email protected]

We recommend the participants to wear comfortable footwear and warm clothes as the event will take place outdoor.

Both performances will be held in the framework of the exhibition of the 21 shortlisted artists for the third edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, the first global art prize for artists up to 35, founded by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. The Award Ceremony will take place on December 6, 2014 in Kyiv (Ukraine).
