Description

In her video performance 44, Alevtina Kakhidze repeats a single phrase — “No” — for six minutes, using different intonations. The work is a critique of reproductive violence experienced by women, specifically the psychological pressure tied to expectations around childbirth. Responding to the repeated question of whether she has children, Kakhidze acts out a range of emotions in her answers: sadness, dissatisfaction, anger, despair, and others. The title of the work corresponds to the number of intonational variations the artist performs.
