Educational program for children Walking-Talking: Power class

Saturday, June 22, 14:00

On Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 14:00, the PinchukArtCentre invites 10 to 12 year old children to join a Walking –Talking class, in the series of classes entitled Basic Categories of China Contemporary Art Discourse. The topic of the event is Power.

Young participants will focus on the study of "power" phenomenon in political, social and artistic contexts. By viewing the works of Zhao Zhao, Ai Weiwei and Sun Xun, children will try to analyze the relationship between government and artist in the history of art and, in particular, in the Chinese artistic tradition. A creative workshop with artist Maria Kulykivska will help children feel the "power discourse" and implement this concept in their own works.

The class will start at 14:00 in the reception area on the 2nd floor of the art centre.

Maximum number of children in the group is 10. Registration is mandatory.

Walking - Talking is a new education program for children ages 10 to 12. Young art centre visitors will be participating in specially designed investigative tours of the exhibitions that will help them better understand art objects.

Scheduled Walking-Talking classes:

July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10, August 17, August 24, August 31, September 7, September 14, September 21, September 28, September 5.

 

Saturday Talk “The body of performer as an instrument of pleasure”

On Saturday, June 22, at 15:00 the PinchukArtCentre invites to attend Saturday Talk “The body of performer as an instrument of pleasure”. Discussing exhibits presented within “China China” show, event participants will consider the relationship of the artist, performer and audience. 

Participants  will analyze the performance in terms of psychoanalytic theory, based on the views of  psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan and the philosopher Gilles Deleuze.

The talk will be hosted by writer, "Sex Comedy" performance participant Andriy Sidorkin by Yan Xin, and Kateryna Churikova, PinchukArtCentre guide.

The event will take place at 15:00 on the 4th floor in the space with the works of Zhao Yao. 

“China China” is a major group exhibition including eleven Chinese artists of different generations, focusing on the tension between individuality and collective thinking - a subject, which not only defined Chinese history and continuously shapes contemporary society but equally gains importance in the West.

The exhibition includes the works of: Ai Weiwei, Cao Fei, Chen Zhen, Sun Xun,
Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, Xu Zhen, Yan Xing, Yang Fudong, Zhang Huan, Zhao Yao, Zhao Zhao.

 

Theme Tour "Political engagement of artistic practice"

On Saturday, June 22, at 17:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour "Political engagement of artistic practice".

Political and social directions of art became active during XIX century and create a new type of art. The gradual development of new effective mechanisms of influence to the reality and society  made  artistic practice closer to realpolitik (from German  -  policies that refuses the ideology as a basis for public policy that focuses on the practical aspects of more than ideological and moralistic). During the tour visitors will analyze the basic principles of contemporary politically engaged art as an example of individual works from the exhibition "China China".

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Kateryna Churikova, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.

 

Family Sundays – Sunday art classes at the PinchukArtCentre

On Sunday, June 23, at 14:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all children aged 4 through 6 to a special Family Sunday class Who is Me.

As part of the event children will get acquainted with their own “selves and will determine what is personality. After a short questionnaire game and viewing of the selected works from “China China” exhibition, together with artist Kateryna Vronska and the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide Olga Shishlova kids will create a group “family portrait”.

Family Sunday starts at 14:00 on the 6th floor in the SkyArtCafe’s video-lounge.

Meanwhile, parents can join one of the regular exhibition tours led by qualified PinchukArtCentre guides.

Maximum number of children in the group is 20. Registration is mandatory.

Schedule:

4 - 6 years: 7 July, 21 July, 4 August, 18 August, 1 September, 15 September, 29 September.

7 - 9 years: 30 June, 14 July, 28 July, 11 August, 25 August, 8 September, 22 September, 6 October.

 

Theme Tour "Principles of traditional Chinese art and rethinking of them according to modernity"

On Sunday, June 23, at 17:00 PinchukArtCentre invites all visitors to join a Thematic Tour "Principles of traditional Chinese art and rethinking of them according to modernity"

According to international standards, Chinese art is exposed to strong influence of Western culture. Becoming more universal and understood by Western society, contemporary Chinese artists actively demonstrate their identity based on traditional canons of art. During the tour visitors will how the foundations of traditional Chinese art, rooted in the collective consciousness of Chinese society form its modern look according  works from the exhibition "China China".

The event starts at 17:00 on the 2nd floor of the art centre, reception area. The tour will be guided by Anastasia Barahvostova, the PinchukArtCentre’s tour guide.
